What cities do you want to visit?
Lately, this question has felt especially close to my heart.
These days, I’ve been thinking a lot about my future—especially where I might go for a PhD. Finland and the Netherlands keep returning to my thoughts, almost like quiet invitations.
Recently, a friend who studied financial management in the Netherlands shared her life there with me and told me about Giethoorn, a peaceful and beautiful village that deeply moved her. Around the same time, my professor mentioned that Finland’s approach to civic education which sparked my interest even more.
As a graduate student in adult and continuing education, Northern Europe feels especially meaningful to me. Finland stands out as a place where education values deep thinking, care, and truly seeing the person in front of you. That philosophy resonates strongly with who I am and how I hope to learn and serve.
There are also small, joyful coincidences—I loved the Moomins as a child, and Finland and the Netherlands keep appearing in conversations and stories around me.
So, if I answer honestly:
• The Netherlands is a place I want to visit—to walk, observe, and feel everyday life.
• Finland is a place I want to study—to think, learn, and grow.
